My New Poem

Posted on June 22, 2018June 28, 2018 by semckee

The biggest moments in our life, become smaller when compared to the next big moment. Life is about baby steps that are taken one moment at a time. I hope you enjoy reading my new poem.

Reach The Age By: S.E.McKee

You reach the age,

When imaginary friends lose their face,
And playing pretend feels out of place

And you reach the age,

When a nap is no longer feared,
Somehow you’re ashamed of the tears
You realize it’s not just a look, but a really long stare
Your heart takes flight and soars high in the air

And you reach the age,

When your world falls apart and everything’s wrong
And you fight for acceptance and want to belong
As the bright warning light starts to die,
And you’d give anything to have her back by your side
Beyond the expanse and beyond your reach
With life’s cruel lessons, that always teach

And I’ve reached the age,

That I see the day,
my dear, fades away
Now, the days fly by too fast
As new friendships never seem to last
I can’t demand life gives the outcome I desire
Rather pray for comfort and strength to acquire
I Grasp at the memories as they fall like sand
‘Cherish the thoughts,’ I finally understand
Our friendship the greatest story ever told
My wish for you love, is you’ll return safe and whole
As you spread your wings, I watch you fly into the great unknown
Always remember my dear, This is just another milestone

    S.E.
This a wonderful poem, heart touching and full of imagery. I was finding myself in all of the scenarios you presented and was truly moved by your words.
It is perfect timing too as my daughter has just graduated high school and is moving on to the next chapter of life.
Thank you for sharing this. I can’t wait to read more.

    S.E.,
With very few words, you’ve taken us on a poignant journey of growth – from young child to adulthood. I love the imagery that you painted for us. Thank you for sharing this. It brought back a lot of memories for me.
I am looking forward to reading more.

    Awww S.E, so beautiful!
Life is such a good teacher. And it knows how to take us from one stage to the next.
We all experience these things in ‘different’ shades yet we all experience
the very ‘same’ things. The universality of ‘IT’ is how we are connected as one people.
Thus, we are all ‘different and the same’ at the same time.
    So beautiful.
That is why your poem speaks to us.

    Beautiful poem.

I loved these words: pray for comfort and strength to acquire

We would do good to connect with that spiritual side of our ‘selves’. I think that IS the way to do it.

And all the words you share here are lovely:
    Grasp at the memories …
    ‘Cherish the thoughts,’ …
    the greatest story ever told…
    return safe and whole…
    …just another milestone

You are a gifted poet, I see. I loved it. Thanks for sharing this. Keep doing it.
    All the best. Selma.
